Creatures of Leisure SUPERLITE Comp 6 Leash Review

Until recently, I was that guy who had one leash for three boards. After forgetting it a few times, and once using an Encinitas Surf Shop roof rack strap, I decided it was time to get another. Usually I’d just head over to Surfride and get one of their $20 basic leashes in the most vibrant color and call it a day. However, I was at a demo show, Camp Shred, and figured it was time to try something different.

Creatures of Leisure was at this show and their SUPERLITE Comp 6 leash caught my eye. It cost about $40, double what I normally would pay for a leash, but I felt like I would give it a shot. After using it for a few months, I want to share my opinion.

Tangly-ness:

The biggest issue I have with leashes in general is that they get twisted on themselves. It’s my go-to scapegoat for when I miss a wave. I know there are ways to prevent this from happening, like not wrapping it tightly around the board, but this leash has been great about not tangling from the get go. Fresh out of the packaging, the rubber straightened out and has been great ever since.

Cuff Twisting:

This is where I have seen the biggest advantage of a nicer leash. Normally I have to adjust the ankle cuff after every wave, making sure that it is pointing away from my board. The ankle cuff on this leash is lined with what feels like neoprene and it does not spin on my ankle. I even habitually reach down to fix it and it is always right where it was before. I have yet to wear this leash without a wetsuit so I am not sure how it will hold on skin, but I think it will work just as well.

Appearance:

I think the leash looks great. The color flows onto the ankle cuff as well as the pull tab and looks really cool. Also, I am a big fan of the pastel blue which Creatures calls ‘Marine’.

Durability:

This has been my main leash for the last few months and I haven’t had any issues with it. I assume that one day it will break (like any leash does), but if I get a few years out of it, I’ll be happy.

Overall:

When it comes down to it, it’s a leash. It attaches your ankle to your board and the Creatures of Leisure SUPERLITE Comp 6 does exactly that. This is a premium leash, but is it worth the cost? Personally, I think it is! I like that it does its job better than the cheaper ones and will most likely continue to buy nicer leashes.

Stay Stoked!
